With Technology, Yoon Makes Direct Pitch in Final Stretch
New Campaign Tactics Aid Voter Interaction
September 18, 2009
BOSTON – In the final days before the September 22 preliminary election for mayor, City Councilor-at-Large and mayoral candidate Sam Yoon will use a series of new technologies to bring his message to voters.
On Saturday, Yoon will hold a tele-town hall – a phone conversation with voters across the city about the issue important to them. Over 25,000 voters, largely undecided, have already received a postcard in the mail to let them know about the tele-town hall. The day of the event, they will receive a call inviting them to stay on the line to participate in the conversation. They can ask questions or adjust their setting through the phone’s keypad. Statement from Sam Yoon on Unchecked Mayoral Power
September 13, 2009
Today, the Boston Globe ran stories about Mayor Thomas Menino’s use of City workers as a political machine and the deletion of electronic files by top-level city officials. Boston City Councilor-at-Large and mayoral candidate Sam Yoon issued the following statement:
“This is what happens when power goes unchecked and unopposed,” said Yoon. “And it speaks to the central issue in this election: the need to reform a system where power is concentrated with one individual indefinitely. If ever there were a case-in-point for eliminating Boston’s strong Mayor system and establishing term limits and greater checks and balances, this is it.
“Boston needs change – the old ways of doing business are not serving our modern city. That is exactly why I ran for public office in the first place, and it is why I am running for mayor this year. Boston residents deserve a City Hall that is open, transparent, and focused on policy instead of politics. We don’t just need a new Mayor; we need a Mayor who will change the strong-mayor system.”

Yoon Calls for “Prime-Time Government”
Offers Plan for New Business Hours for City Hall, Council
August 18, 2009
BOSTON – City Councilor-at-Large and mayoral candidate Sam Yoon offered a plan for extending business hours at City Hall at least once a week by shifting the hours to offer later services on Wednesdays and close earlier on Fridays.
“We should be doing government business in prime-time hours,” said Yoon. “This is your City Hall, and it should be open and accessible beyond the work day. The current hours speak to a mentality of treating taxpayers as an afterthought, and that’s wrong. Boston’s residents are our customers and our bosses. We should treat them that way.” Continue Reading…
