With Technology, Yoon Makes Direct Pitch in Final Stretch
New Campaign Tactics Aid Voter Interaction
September 18, 2009
BOSTON – In the final days before the September 22 preliminary election for mayor, City Councilor-at-Large and mayoral candidate Sam Yoon will use a series of new technologies to bring his message to voters.
On Saturday, Yoon will hold a tele-town hall – a phone conversation with voters across the city about the issue important to them. Over 25,000 voters, largely undecided, have already received a postcard in the mail to let them know about the tele-town hall. The day of the event, they will receive a call inviting them to stay on the line to participate in the conversation. They can ask questions or adjust their setting through the phone’s keypad.
Additionally, the Yoon campaign will send e-mails to its list of over 50,000 Boston residents with video messages targeted to various age groups and neighborhoods. Voters in Allston and Brighton, for example, will receive a clip of Yoon speaking at an August town hall meeting in Brighton.
Yoon media consultant, Jim Spencer, says voters respond positively to Yoon’s direct approach.
“Other campaigns may not think it’s important to show their candidate speakng about issues, but voters sure do,” said Spencer. “Our campaign will bring Sam up close and personal with voters in the crucial days when they are making up their minds.”
Throughout his time in office, Yoon has worked to make City Hall more accessible to the public. Since he was elected to the City Council, he has held a series of interactive neighborhood meetings about the budget and conducted online surveys with thousands of Boston residents. During this campaign, Yoon held live town hall meetings to reach voters in Allston, Brighton, Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury, and the South End.
