Yoon Steps Up Student Effort in Mayoral Campaign
Hosts “College Night with Sam Yoon” on April 30th
April 24, 2009
BOSTON – City Councilor at Large and mayoral candidate Sam Yoon has reached out to Boston college students this month to raise awareness of and participation in the upcoming Boston mayor’s race. Next week, he will become the first candidate to host an event specifically geared toward voters in Boston’s student community.
“Boston is home to the top colleges and universities in the world, and we often forget how important students are to our city,” said Yoon. “I believe student leadership and energy can be a major force in city politics. This mayoral race is the first time in a long time that students really have a chance to make a difference – if not the difference – in the election.”
Earlier this month, Yoon held a conference call with campus leaders from Boston-area colleges, including Boston University, Boston College, Brandeis, Harvard, Emerson, and Northeastern. Participants in the call discussed strategies to boost student participation in the mayoral race.
Organizers from the call have helped to plan a “College Night with Sam Yoon”event on Thursday, April 30th at 7:00 p.m. at the Hong Kong restaurant in Harvard Square.
Ed Marin, Yoon’s volunteer coordinator, said the event would let students meet others who are interested in the campaign and give them a chance to get involved.
“College students from schools across the city have been motivated to work hard to elect Sam Yoon as the next mayor of Boston,” said Marin. “Those student leaders are organizing the “College Night” event as a low-dollar fundraiser for those interested in becoming active in Sam’s campaign to get together socially.”
The event has a suggested donation of $10. Those interested can contact Marin by email at ed@samyoon.com or by phone at 617-825-0309.
