YOON CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCES MAJOR SPRING FUNDRAISING MOVES, STRONG CASH POSITION

BOSTON - National Democratic fundraising consultant Jeff Hewitt has joined Sam Yoon’s at-large campaign for Boston City Council. Hewitt, the president of Hewitt Campaigns, has raised over $50 million for Democratic candidates in 34 states since 1992 in local, state and national campaigns.

“With Jeff Hewitt on board we are taking our fundraising to a new level,” said Yoon, whose at-large campaign makes him Boston’s first Asian-American candidate for elected office. “Jeff has an amazing record of successful breakthrough campaigns. I am thrilled that he shares my vision of responsive and innovative city government that’s a voice for every Bostonian.”

In 2004, Hewitt helped Hubert Vo become the country’s first Vietnamese-American Democratic lawmaker, raising over a half-million dollars to defeat the chairman of the Texas state house appropriations committee. He also helped Barbara Blackmon become the first African-American statewide nominee in Mississippi since Reconstruction.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join Sam Yoon’s Boston City Council at-large campaign,” Hewitt said. “Sam has all the attributes I look for in a candidate. He provides a fresh voice for all Bostonians. And, with his experience in affordable housing and education, he knows what it will take.”

The addition of Hewitt launches an aggressive spring fundraising effort by the campaign, including a dense schedule of house parties around the city. The campaign today reported over $40,000 in cash on hand, with contributions over $10,000 in the month of March and over $50,000 raised in total.

Having devoted himself to his new daughter Naomi, born on January 31, Yoon is making fundraising the campaign’s top spring priority. He recently tallied $500 contributions from state Democratic Party chairman Phil Johnston and possible gubernatorial candidate Deval Patrick.

“We are starting from a very solid cash position,” Hewitt said. “Sam’s
candidacy is a big deal for Boston, and we’re going to make sure his message gets heard citywide.”
